Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa Hotel - Lahaina Hawaii
Fantasy resort amid grand elegance Surrounded by Kaanapali Beach in the front and a championship golf course behind, this 40-acre fantasy resort is located at the south end of Kaanapali's hotel row on Maui's northwest coast; because it's so vast, the resort provides a rare sense of privacy and isolation. Guests are pampered in their rooms by 18-inch-thick, down-filled mattresses and surrounded by elegant, island-style furniture in both light and dark woods. Botanical paintings grace the walls, and each guestroom offers a balcony. Terraced into the hillside, the resort includes nearly every imaginable amenity, including a helipad; an astronomy center; a three-section pool with a 150-foot, tube-shaped water slide surrounded by a junglelike garden of plants, trees, and lava rocks; and grounds filled with cranes, swans, flamingoes, and parrots.

Swan Court Restaurant - Acclaimed for its romantic setting next to a lake that's home to elegant swans, this fine-dining restaurant offers selections such as sugar-cane-skewered ahi and a signature warm dessert soufflé. The lounge provides Hawaiian music nightly. Spats Trattoria - A Northern Italian dinner menu is the feature here, beginning with a splendid antipasti platter. Cascades Grille & Sushi Bar - Offering both sushi and grilled fare at lunch and dinner, this restaurant combines the flavors of East and West. The open-air lounge's view from atop the resort's waterfalls is of the beach and the blue Pacific. Pavillion - Casual is the watchword at this poolside spot, both in attire and food. Grotto Bar - A swim-up bar located in a cavelike setting between the pool area's waterfalls, this nook provides a great spot for sipping tropical drinks. Weeping Banyan - Next to the resort's Penguin Pond and atop a koi lagoon, this lounge is the scene of nightly Hawaiian entertainment and a torch-lighting ceremony.

AMENITIES & SERVICES

What to expect: Grand elegance and a reputation as an anything-you-desire "fantasy resort" bring an adult crowd to this resort and spa from all over the world. The large sand-bottom children's pool and a mini water slide make the place more family-friendly. The resort provides tranquility and a sense of complete isolation within its 40 acres, offering beautiful grounds (even the parking lot is shaded by trees) and relief from outside-world stresses. Yet, a world-class golf course is adjacent to the resort, and a pretty shopping-and-dining mall lies just a 10-minute walk down Kaanapali Beach. Amenity highlights: So large and so complete, the resort truly offers something for everyone: a 16-inch computerized telescope and giant binoculars for studying the stars; a 750,000-gallon pool with a 150-foot tube-shaped water slide; a sand-entry children's activity pool; a garden-grotto spa adjacent to two little waterfalls; 15 smart shops, including one devoted to traditional Hawaiian quilts, in a skylighted and wood-lined pedestrian mall; an extensive collection of Asian art and artifacts spread throughout the buildings and the manicured grounds; Hyatt Regency's signature garden-atrium in one of the resort's three towers; the resort's own 55-foot catamaran for snorkeling and sailing excursions; a luau and Polynesian music-and-dance show; a full-service health-and-beauty spa; a zillion activities to choose from; and famed Kaanapali Beach and the warm, blue Pacific Ocean. Insider tip: Uncorrupted by big-city lights, the night sky above Maui provides a perfect backdrop for inspecting stars with the resort's 16-inch computerized telescope and giant binoculars as part of the astronomy program.

Popular with honeymooners, groups, and independent travelers, the three-tower Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa offers dozens of activities and facilities in a setting of grand luxury. An astronomy center is just one example, as the Hyatt Regency strives to be a "fantasy resort," fulfilling every desire—including that of snoozing in a hammock next to the beach. The resort's own 55-foot catamaran, available for snorkeling and sailing excursions, is another attraction. A day spa and full-service beauty salon, with massage and nail-care also available in shaded canopies by the beach, is another option. Romantic dinners for two can be booked under an oceanside canopy, with a private server, a four-course meal, and champagne. Couples can also enjoy the festivities at the Dream of the Pacific Luau, with a Hawaiian buffet dinner and a Polynesian music-dance show. Other activities include scuba-diving, snorkeling, surfing, boogie-boarding, kayaking, sail-boarding, and lei-making lessons; sand-castle building; billiard and ping-pong tournaments. Fitness classes include beach boot camp, tai-chi, pilates, yoga, and water aerobics. An exceptionally varied program is provided for children ages 5–12. Called Camp Hyatt, the program alternates beach activities, a Sugar Cane Train ride to Old Lahaina Town, a visit to Maui Ocean Center (aquarium, aquatic park), Hawaiian cultural activities, Hawaiian arts and crafts, athletics, and astronomy. Half-day, full-day, and night programs are available. The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa also features a tour/travel services desk and services for the hearing impaired, in addition to the property amenities listed below.
