Sheraton Maui Hotel - Lahaina Hawaii
Spacious resort on signature Kaanapali beach Situated next to Black Rock, Kaanapali’s landmark, this hotel provides access to a vast stretch of light-colored sand and prime snorkeling water. A sense of seclusion pervades, though 10 minutes from Whaler's Village and across the road from two tournament-level golf courses. Guestrooms contain wicker and dark-wood furniture, and beds are covered in light-colored orange-and-white spreads. Each room is fronted by a lanai (patio or balcony), and includes a refrigerator and bathrobes for lounging. The hotel's lagoonlike freshwater pool meanders through a lush lava-rock garden. Spanned by wooden bridges, it runs among secluded pools and ends in two separate swimming areas, one a children’s pool with steam vents in the rocks creating a volcanic atmosphere.

The Reef's Edge - In the evening, this lounge serves cocktails and light food while guests play billiards. AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: A mature resort from its putting-green-trim lawns to its soaring palm trees, this is a prime destination for romantic travelers and families seeking relaxation without crowding. Spread over 23 acres, the resort focuses on its grounds (splendid for moonlight walks), pool, and access to the exceptionally large beach. Activities and other facilities, like a health-and-beauty spa (offering beachside massage and other treatments), a fitness center, a full-service business center, shops, and even restaurants are discreetly tucked away so none intrudes on another. Amenity highlights: Each evening, guests gather on the beach and near the pool to observe a Hawaiian man lighting tiki torches throughout the grounds while a duo plays haunting Hawaiian music by the pool and narrates the history of Black Rock, the lava landmark promontory on Kaanapali Beach. Hawaiians regard Black Rock as a sacred place, and the ceremony proceeds quietly. Clambering onto Black Rock, the torchbearer eventually stands silhouetted against neighboring Lanai and the sun's final embers. Removing a lei from his neck, he solemnly presents it to the four compass directions, tosses it into the sea, and then dives after it, recreating the moment when an 18th-century chief named Kahekili proved his courage and athleticism on Black Rock. Insider tip: Dinner Under the Stars offers couples romantic private dining on the hotel's grounds any time, any place, and is attended by a private waiter serving a menu of the couple's choice. A secluded open-air hut near the beach is especially appealing for such an interlude because it's screened by flowering plants and provides a view of both the ocean and Black Rock.
