The Ritz Carlton Kapalua Hotel - Lahaina Hawaii
Elite golf resort in a spectacular pineapple-plantation setting Set amid 50 verdant acres of tree-covered hillsides sloping down to the sparkling Pacific Ocean near Maui's northwest tip, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is a luxurious resort graced by a secluded beach and breathtaking views of the ocean and the island of Molokai. Extra-large guestrooms reflect the hotel's impeccable, restrained taste. Scented by a bowl of potpourri, the rooms offer the comfort and convenience of ultra-thick mattresses, marble baths, CD players, and view balconies. Terraced into the hillside, three swimming pools connected by waterfalls and surrounded by padded lounge chairs offer alternatives to the beach. Golf cart shuttle service or a downhill, 4-minute stroll take guests to a shady, beachfront coconut grove and a deep, covelike beach.

DINING
Exceptional in all respects—from preparation to presentation to good linens—The Ritz-Carlton's dining and beverage service is among the resort's principal attractions. Hawaiian fruits, vegetables, fish, and meats grace the menus. Tropical drinks are mixed with finesse and given unexpected treatments. The Banyan Tree Restaurant - Set amid manicured lawns and offering panoramic views of the sparkling Pacific and neighboring Molokai, The Banyan Tree offers Pacific Rim cuisine with a Hawaiian accent for lunch and dinner. On most evenings there's live musical entertainment from an expert duo playing exotic Pacific Island instruments. The Terrace Restaurant - Both a bountiful buffet and à la carte selections (lobster benedict, lobster hash, macadamia-nut pancakes) greet guests at breakfast, and from here they enjoy views of the resort's terraced pools and the ocean beyond.
Kai - Diners at this sushi bar see the blue Pacific while the chef prepares their meals from an array of fresh seafood. The Lobby Lounge - One of the most congenial conversation venues in all Hawaii, this informal place spreads through three plantation-style rooms and two open-air terraces, offering widely spaced upholstered chairs and sofas in muted colors for relaxation and light meals, dazzling desserts, and finely tuned drinks. Complimentary Kona coffee is served in the morning. Afternoon tea service can be ordered in advance. The bar and cigar bar are well stocked for the nightly entertainment sessions. The Beach House Bar & Grill - Bathing suits are the norm here for casual lunches and evening cocktails in a coconut-palm grove adjacent to the beach. The Pool Bar & Café - Serving the resort's terraced-pool complex, this spot serves lunch and tropical drinks. 24-hour room service is available, with selections ranging from champagne breakfasts, to romantic dinners-for-two from a regional American and Pacific Rim menu, to custom picnic baskets, to children's menus.

AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Expect understated luxury, a gracious staff, and exceptional food and drink. The hotel's tropical plantation-style architecture, decor, and pace attract an international clientele for whom relaxation, not business, is the rule. Amenity highlights: Everything is world-class, including the golf courses and nearby golf academy, the professional croquet lawn, the three-tiered pool terrace, the covelike beach with its prime snorkeling areas, the Waihua health and beauty spa, the tennis center, the smart shops, the food, and the tropical drinks. Even the luau/Polynesian show wins honors. Within the resort and protected by hedges is a sacred Hawaiian burial ground. Respect for Hawaiian history and culture begins with a film in The Ritz-Carlton's theater and extends throughout the resort's activities and facilities: complimentary lei-making classes in the medicinal garden, for example, and a shopping area where Hawaiian artisans practice their crafts. Insider tip: Guests can request a special bath package. A butler draws a scented bath (choice of scent) and provides appropriate background music and a towel warmer. Chocolates and choice of champagne, mai tais, or fruit and juice are included.

This 548-room resort fits beautifully into its 50-acre former-pineapple plantation setting. That history is honored in the hotel's grand plantation-house design, complete with peaked roofs on many levels and blue-green wrought-iron balcony railings against pale stucco walls. The small, European-style lobby introduces the resort's homey style, which extends to the public rooms' soft-colored furniture and original Hawaiian motif paintings. Though many activities are offered, guests are not pressed to participate but left alone to enjoy the resort's hospitality as they wish. The resort also features overnight shoe-shine service, a tour/travel services desk, and services for the hearing impaired, in addition to the property amenities listed below. The Ritz Kids Program provides a variety of daily activities for children ages 5–12, and 3- and 4-year-olds are accepted if accompanied by an adult. The program alternates nature exploration, athletics, water-based fun, island adventures, beach activities, Hawaiian games and entertainment, and arts and crafts. Half-day, full-day, and night programs are available.

RECREATION

Golf alone makes Kapalua famous. The Ritz-Carlton provides its own 9-hole putting course and three award-winning, championship 18-hole courses that make Kapalua an international golfing destination. Nestled between the verdant West Maui Mountains and the blue Pacific, the three courses provide spectacular views. In addition, the Kapalua Golf Academy is located in the area. Also, situated between the hotel and the sea is the nearby Kapalua Village Tennis Center. The resort has its own professional croquet lawn. It provides a map to some 7 miles of walking/jogging trails. Baby joggers are available for rent at a beach-activity center. Mountain bikes, boogie boards, snorkel sets, and scuba gear are also available for rent there, and scuba-diving lessons and excursions can be booked as well as kayaking/snorkeling tours. Fitness classes, including power walks, yoga, pilates, pool aerobics, and hula occur daily at the resort, and many are complimentary. The resort, Kapalua Village, and West Maui offer skydiving, parasailing, helicopter/airplane sightseeing, nature/wildlife tours, and submarine excursions, in addition to the recreational activities listed below.
