The Westin Maui Hotel - Lahaina Hawaii
Home of famed water park and mountainscape gardens Situated on northwest Maui's renowned Kaanapali Beach, this elegant full-service resort hotel offers a famously massive, 85,000-square-foot water park. Kaanapali's shopping and dining mall, Whalers Village, is next door, and two public, tournament-grade golf courses lie across the street. Westin's signature all-white Heavenly Bed, seven layers of bedding including a fluffy down-filled duvet, highlights each extra-spacious guestroom. A balcony and a marble bathroom are among other room comforts and conveniences. The out-of-the-ordinary water park offers five swimming pools on three levels, a long water slide, a grotto spa, koi ponds, and a rocky mountainscape of lush gardens, rushing streams, waterfalls, and winding paths.

Tropica - This oceanfront restaurant serves dinner with a musical background and a wandering magician for diversion. A Sunday champagne brunch offers a bountiful buffet. The Tropica Bar features pool tables. Ono - Adjacent to the pool, koi ponds, and soothing waterfalls, Ono ("delicious" in Hawaiian) offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On Saturday nights there's a prime rib/seafood buffet. Every night there's live music, and twice weekly an "interactive" hula show brings the house down. Colonnade Cafe - This stand near the koi pond serves espresso drinks, coffee, tea, cold beverages, pastries, and sandwiches.

AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Myriad diversions—athletic, cultural, educational, and entertaining—attract a young-adult and family clientele, with opportunities for adults to dress up a bit in the evenings. The late closing time of the adults-only pool, nightly entertainment, and sociable restaurants and lounges keep The Westin Maui hopping long after most Kaanapali Beach hotels have fallen into slumber. Asian art objects convert spacious, airy public rooms and hallways into a lovely museum illuminated by huge chandeliers at night. Amenity highlights: Wandering the hallways and lobby to view the hotel's $2.5-million Asian art collection of porcelain, screens, statues, and other objects is an activity in itself. Beach activities abound. A luau and Polynesian music-and-dance show entertains. A health club and spa, including a full-service beauty salon, pampers. A fitness center with a beach view energizes. Padded lounge chairs and sundecks on various levels beckon. The enormous koi pond with its fountains and little waterfalls soothes. But the principal attraction is the sprawling, free-form aquatic playground and its 120-foot water slide that swooshes guests around 270-degree turns and drops them 23 feet in elevation before depositing them with a splash into a huge, beach-level pool. Insider tip: Isolated near the top of the mountainscape and reachable by various flagstone paths ascending the mountain (one runs under a large waterfall), the adults-only swimming pool stays open until 10 PM. Floating in light-filled water under moon and/or stars and enveloped in mountain silence is a treat.

Attracting honeymooners, conventioneers, and independent travelers, the two-tower Westin Maui serves them all with a myriad of activities and facilities in an airy setting of pillars, broad corridors lined with smart shops, and high ceilings. There are tent-like gazebos for rent near the pool and up on the mountainscape; fingernail-painting and hair-braiding gazebos by the lower-level pool; a health-and-beauty spa; water aerobics; walks-and-talks about flowers and koi-feeding; doll- and lei- and hat/basket-making classes; wood-carving and hula lessons; and above all, water-based fun in the sun. Children ages 5–12 can be left in the care of the Keiki Kamp, which provides an activity-filled day in the pool, on the beach, and in the center. Half-day, full-day, and night programs are available. The Westin Maui also features a steam room, a tour/travel services desk, and services for the hearing impaired, in addition to the amenities listed below. Guests staying at any one of the four Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki can sign charges to their room for dining, shows, oceanfront bars, and entertainment options at any of the properties.
